What social leasing is
Social leasing 2026 is a long-term rental offer for new electric cars, which the State renews from 16 July 2026 so that the most modest households can switch to an electric car. The household pays monthly rents and does not have to buy the car. At the end of the contract it returns the vehicle or decides to buy it at its residual value, if the contract includes a purchase option.
Who it is for
According to the ministry page, a person can use the scheme under conditions: being an adult who can show a domicile in France; belonging to a tax household whose reference tax income per share is €16,880 or less; and either living more than 10 kilometres from the place of work and using a personal car to get there, or driving more than 8,000 kilometres a year with a personal car as part of a professional activity.
Rents and contract
Under the published offer, monthly rents do not exceed €200, excluding options, accessories, services and compulsory motor insurance. Some offers are under €140 a month.
Under the published offer, the contract runs for at least 3 years, with or without a purchase option, and includes at least 15,000 km a year at no extra charge.
Where to reserve
The ministry page, updated on 16 July 2026, announces that from 16 July a car can be reserved directly with a dealer or an approved lessor (loueur conventionné). The models offered by the lessors are subject to vehicle availability.
