Elbilspremien pays 1,300 SEK per month for 36 months, up to 46,800 SEK in total, for applications from 18 March 2026 to 30 June 2028, and 900 SEK per month for applications from 1 July 2028. It supports low and lower-middle income households in rural areas who buy or lease a pure electric passenger car.
Elbilspremien is an electric vehicle premium funded through the Social Climate Fund and administered by Naturvårdsverket, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. It pays 1,300 SEK per month for 36 months, up to 46,800 SEK in total, for applications submitted from 18 March 2026 to 30 June 2028.
Sweden’s Social Climate Plan states a premium of 900 SEK per month for 36 months, up to 32,400 SEK in total, for applications submitted from 1 July 2028 to 30 June 2029.

Who it is for
The premium targets vulnerable households with low and lower-middle incomes, about 115,500 households, in 177 rural municipalities and 433 specific areas. Private citizens apply.
Eligible vehicles
Only pure electric passenger cars qualify; combustion engines, conventional hybrids and plug-in hybrids are excluded. The vehicle price is capped at 450,000 SEK. Purchase and leasing are both allowed, and so are new and used vehicles.
The vehicle must be classified as a passenger car class I, be actively registered in the road traffic register and not be subject to a driving ban.
How to apply and get paid
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis from 18 March 2026 to 30 June 2029, and the legal decree ceases to be in force on 1 August 2032.
Apply online through the Naturvårdsverket portal. Have your personal details ready, add the vehicle registration number if the car is already acquired, and add a digital declaration of honor.
The premium is paid monthly by bank transfer to the registered bank account of the applicant.
