What the grant covers

The E-Auto-Förderung supports buying or leasing a new electric passenger car (class M1) that is registered in Germany for the first time and assigned to the applicant's private assets. Vehicles held as business assets are not covered.

Duration and funding

The funding guideline took effect on 19 May 2026 and expires on 31 December 2029. If the funds available under the economic plan of the Climate and Transformation Fund are used up, no further funding can be approved, and the approving authority may announce a funding stop.

Amounts

The grant is a non-repayable fixed amount, graded by the household's taxable annual income and by the number of funding-relevant children (förderrelevante Kinder). The amounts below apply to battery-electric cars first registered from 1 January 2026 up to and including 31 December 2029. A funding-relevant child is a child living in the applicant's household for whom there is an entitlement to child benefit and who had not turned 18 when the car was first registered.

• Up to €45,000: €5,000 with no funding-relevant child; €5,500 with one; €6,000 with two or more.
• €45,001 to €60,000: €4,000 with no funding-relevant child; €4,500 with one; €5,000 with two or more.
• €60,001 to €80,000: €3,000 with no funding-relevant child; €3,500 with one; €4,000 with two or more.
• €80,001 to €85,000: not eligible with no funding-relevant child; €3,500 with one; €4,000 with two or more.
• €85,001 to €90,000: not eligible with no or one funding-relevant child; €4,000 with two or more funding-relevant children.
• €90,001 and above: not eligible.

Entitlement and processing

There is no legal entitlement to the grant: the approving authority decides at its due discretion, and the grant is subject to the availability of the budgeted funds. Applications are processed in the order in which the complete application documents are received.
