E-Auto-Förderung amounts for battery-electric cars

Amounts of the German E-Auto-Förderung for battery-electric cars: a fixed, non-repayable grant graded by taxable household annual income and the number of funding-relevant children.

How the amount is set

The grant is a non-repayable fixed amount. The amounts below apply to battery-electric cars first registered from 1 January 2026 up to and including 31 December 2029, and depend on the household's taxable annual income and the number of funding-relevant children. The guideline's table is headed for battery-electric and fuel-cell cars; this page describes battery-electric cars.

A funding-relevant child is a child who lives in the applicant's household, for whom there is an entitlement to child benefit, and who had not turned 18 when the car was first registered.

The income used is the average of the taxable incomes shown in the two most recent income tax assessments of each contributing person at the time of application, added together. The assessments may not be older than three calendar years.

Rules that affect the amount

Where several applications are filed for the same vehicle, only the first one received by the approving authority counts.

There is no legal entitlement to the grant, which is subject to the availability of the budgeted funds. The guideline expires on 31 December 2029, and if the budgeted funds are used up, no further funding can be approved.

The guideline also covers externally rechargeable hybrid electric vehicles and fuel-cell vehicles; this page does not describe them.
