Who can apply for Croatia's EV grant

Call EnU-2/26 states these applicant conditions: being an adult resident of Croatia, investing own funds, having no overdue obligations to the Fund, and applying for at most one vehicle per person. The call also requires meeting all of its other conditions.

These rules come from call EnU-2/26, which the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund published on 9 October 2026.

Conditions the call states for applicants

These are the applicant conditions the call states. The call also requires applicants to meet all the other conditions it sets, and the Fund checks the eligibility of applications, so this is what the call says, not a promise of a grant.

Beneficiaries are adult natural persons, citizens with residence in Croatia.

An applicant must invest their own funds, must have no overdue unsettled or unregulated obligations to the Fund, and must have fully and on time met the obligations taken on under earlier Fund grants. The applicant must also accept the conditions of joint participation in co-financing and conclude a contract with the Fund.

Each person can receive funds for at most one vehicle, and one application can be submitted for one vehicle.

Which vehicles

The call supports only a new electric-drive motor vehicle approved for road traffic in Croatia that will be first registered in Croatia after purchase. Passenger cars are category M1, and the vehicle price with VAT can be at most 62,500 euro.

Buying or leasing

You can acquire ownership of the vehicle or use financial leasing with a repayment period of at most 5 years. With financial leasing, the eligible costs are those under the repayment plan that arise from the publication of the call until the financial leasing contract expires. Costs under an operational leasing contract are not eligible. Before submitting the payment claim you must settle lease obligations (down payment, instalments) of at least the grant amount, and within 5 years of the payout you must settle all remaining obligations and send the Fund proof of it.

Which costs count

As a general rule, eligible costs are the costs of purchasing the new vehicle that arise from the publication of the call until 31 March 2028, and advance payments that arise and are paid no earlier than 1 January 2026. With financial leasing the call sets a separate rule: eligible costs follow the repayment plan until the leasing contract expires. The time a cost arises is the invoice date. A vehicle that was fully paid before the call was published is not eligible. For the same purchase, the total of the funds approved from all public sources must not reach 100% of the eligible and justified costs.

After the grant

The vehicle must be bought and registered by 31 March 2028, with the invoice dated within that period, and the beneficiary must keep it in ownership or use for 2 years from the payout. If the beneficiary does not allow on-site control, or control finds that the conditions are not observed, the Fund starts a procedure to recover the whole amount paid, increased by statutory default interest.
