Who can get the Auto+ aid
Eligibility for Line 1 of Spain's Auto+ programme under the 2026 call: private individuals buying a passenger car (category M1) that is pure electric or electrified, with conditions on the applicant, the vehicle, its registration date and price. The page says which conditions it lists and which it leaves out.
Scope of this page
This page covers Line 1 of the Auto+ programme (Royal Decree 609/2026) under the 2026 call, for private individuals buying a passenger car (class M1). The programme has two funding lines, and Line 1 is for private individuals who carry out no economic activity.
This page is limited to passenger cars (class M1). It does not describe the amount of aid, the documents to submit or the application route.
Applicant
Under the 2026 call, beneficiaries are adult individuals who carry out no economic activity and have legal residence in Spain.
They must be up to date with their tax and Social Security obligations when the grant is awarded, and must have no pending obligation to repay aid to the General State Administration and its dependent public bodies. The call also requires the remaining requirements of article 13.2 of Law 38/2003 without listing them.
The decree adds that a beneficiary may not be subject to a pending recovery order following an earlier European Commission decision declaring aid illegal and incompatible with the internal market, and refers to articles 13.2 and 13.3 bis of Law 38/2003.
Under Line 1, aid is limited to one vehicle per beneficiary.
The vehicle
Line 1 supports the direct acquisition of ownership of vehicles that meet the requirements of Annexes I and II. The geographic scope is the whole national territory.
Passenger cars (class M1) are vehicles designed and built mainly to carry passengers and their luggage, with at most eight seats besides the driver's and no standing passengers.
Only vehicles that bear the CERO environmental label can receive aid. The vehicle must be pure electric (battery-electric or fuel-cell) or electrified (range-extender or plug-in hybrid). Both kinds of passenger car are covered by this page.
For M1 cars the maximum price of the vehicle to be acquired is €45,000. Prices are invoice prices that include all extras, accessories and services associated with the sale, exclude taxes and are taken after commercial discounts.
Registration date and where the vehicle was bought
The 2026 call supports vehicles in one of two cases:
- New vehicles first registered in Spain in the beneficiary's name from 1 January 2026.
- Other vehicles bought through a dealer or point of sale of the manufacturer or importer group, whose first registration as a new vehicle took place in Spain from 1 January 2025, provided no more than twelve months passed between the first registration and the invoice date.
Invoice conditions
The invoice date must be 1 January 2026 or later. The invoice must show a discount of at least €1,000 on the sale price excluding taxes, recorded under a concept clearly related to the Programa Auto+. This discount applies when the vehicle is new and of category M1. The first transitional provision of the decree, which applies to the 2026 call, adds that for a vehicle acquired on a date before the opening of the application period the invoice may not show that discount. The call sets that opening at 4 August 2026, 10:00 (Spanish peninsular time). This page does not go beyond that wording.
Other conditions
The grant is given once per vehicle, with no new aid on later transfers of a subsidised vehicle.
The aid is compatible with other subsidies, aid, income or resources for the same eligible costs, unless they are European Union instruments, up to 80 percent of the eligible cost. The eligible cost is the invoice price excluding taxes, including all extras, accessories and sale-related services, less commercial discounts.
What this page does and does not settle
This page lists the conditions that the 2026 call (its articles on geographic scope, features of the subsidies, beneficiaries, application conditions and the invoice, and its Annexes I and II) and the decree (its articles on the scope of the programme and on beneficiaries) state for Line 1 private applicants. It is a summary, not a complete statement of every requirement: the remaining requirements of article 13.2 of Law 38/2003 and of article 13.3 bis, as the decree refers to it, are not listed, and the documents, the payment evidence and the calculation of the amount are not covered. It says nothing on whether applications can still be submitted or on what is left of the call's budget.
