Kinoumai Ilektrika III amounts

For a new purely electric car with a retail price before taxes of up to 50,000 euro, the bonus is 3,000 euro. Scrapping an old car and some applicant supplements add to it under set conditions.

These amounts come from joint ministerial decision 132625/03.06.2024 (Government Gazette B' 3076, 3 June 2024) as changed by its second amendment (Government Gazette B' 4199, 31 July 2025).

Which rule applies

The decision treats applications and expenses in cohorts. The amounts below apply to applications submitted after the second amendment took effect and to expenses made from 7 June 2025 onward. For applications submitted up to and including 30 June 2025 that concern expenses made from 1 May 2024 to 6 June 2025, the decision applies as it stood before the second amendment; under that earlier paragraph the bonus for a purely electric car was 30% of the retail price before taxes with a maximum of 9,000 euro, and this page does not describe its other terms. Applications submitted after the second amendment took effect that concern expenses before 7 June 2025 cannot be included in the action, and applications submitted before it took effect that concern expenses from 7 June 2025 and were rejected may be resubmitted if they meet its criteria.

The sixth amendment (Government Gazette B' 4349 of 14 July 2026) sets the date from which expenses for purchase or lease are eligible according to when the application is submitted: 1 May 2024 for applications submitted up to and including 30 June 2025, and 7 June 2025 for applications submitted from then on. It also sets 31 December 2026 as the date until which applications are submitted, and the duration may be shortened if the available funds are covered earlier.

The first amendment set 30 June 2025 as the last day for applications. The second amendment, in force from its publication on 31 July 2025, set 31 December 2025 as the new last day and left the start of submission to an announcement on the ministry and programme sites.

Base bonus and price ceiling

The ecological bonus for a purely electric car with a maximum retail price before taxes of 50,000 euro is 3,000 euro. Cars with a retail price before taxes above 50,000 euro are not subsidised.

The retail price corresponds to the price of the base model and the cash price. Interest from instalment arrangements and other possible costs, such as installing additional accessories, are not included, and VAT is not an eligible expense.

Optional scrapping

Under the rule for applications submitted after the second amendment took effect and for expenses from 7 June 2025, scrapping an old M1 car is optional and is rewarded with 1,500 euro.

The decision's article on scrapping sets these cumulative conditions. The new and the scrapped vehicles must belong to the same categories of eligible vehicles. Every scrapped vehicle must have a year of first circulation licence in Greece or an EU member state earlier than 1 January 2010, and must not have come into the beneficiary's ownership after 1 January 2023. It must have all its mechanical parts and body elements. It need not be able to move under its own power, as it may have been rendered unusable by being immobilised, but vehicles destroyed by accident, fire, arson or vandalism are excluded from the subsidy. It must be delivered by the owner or an authorised representative to a treatment facility or end-of-life vehicle collection point; the owner receives a delivery receipt, and any transport cost is borne by the owner and is not an expense of the action. A certificate of final deregistration must be provided. The current year's circulation fees must have been paid, which is not required for vehicles already immobilised. The scrapping is documented by a destruction certificate from an official body that states the registration number and the date of destruction. A Category A beneficiary may scrap one old vehicle when buying the new one, and only a car of category M1 or a vehicle of category L.

Supplements for some applicants

For persons with disability the bonus for an M1 car is increased by 1,000 euro, with the necessary supporting documents for the specific categories.

For young people aged up to 29 in the year of the application the bonus is increased by 500 euro, with the necessary supporting documents.

For families with three dependent children the bonus for an M1 car is increased by 1,000 euro, and for families with more than three dependent children by 2,000 euro. The supplement is given after the necessary supporting documents are provided and the number of dependent members is verified (table 8 of the E1 income tax return form for the last tax year, and the family status certificate).

Limits

Where several criteria apply together, the total subsidy cannot exceed the retail price before taxes of the vehicle. A Category A natural person may submit one and only one application.
